I have a question for you though, if the dungeons are "open world" can't people kill-steal bosses from you?

From what I have seen, first to tag the beast is first to keep it. On the other hand, if someone does more damage then you to the mob, it makes you get less exp, influence, renown, etc. The person that tags it controls looting options.

I'm sure as the game progresses Mythic will see problems with this and fix it, but at the moment the above is the case.

Oh wow, that's lame, I hope they fix it. Have any of the beta testers been complaining about it in the beta forums?

This has been a working mechanic in EQ2 since launch for them. It does work and it also promotes teamwork and healthy competition. Sadly, it also brings out the retards that will grief their own allies. But overall, it's a great mechanic and really adds to the overall experience.
