| duuude sweet, mook u know ure stuff i have a 3year old laptop, will probably upgrade if i 1) have the moneyz and 2) if it doesnt run WAR. Has run all games fine in the past, but when i get home from work, ill post the specs and you guys can see what you think. A clean up of it would probably help too, i seem to be accumulating random junk i dont really need on my laptop. and oh, no 1 needs a terrabyte HD, id have said even 300gig is excessive. 100movies+100hours of music and some games and ure still pretty much under 100gig. But thats a personal choice i guess, better too much than too little. |

| Actually its better to have 3-4 100 gb harddrives.. it allows for faster page filing and stuff like that.. The computer doesnt have to look through gbs of memory in a large harddrive.. Thats why people like seeing Mobos with 6 SATA plugs.. | |

| Dont you think a lot of HD's would chew up processing power? or is that irrelevant if you got a monster machine like Mook is helping to build |

No any computer would increase its processing power by doing what i said... Because it is better sorted out.. You have a HD that just has games one that just has Movies/music ect.. This allows for better memory searching in the HDs

| difference in OS is that Ultimate has the power to run a full website Domain... In otherwords unless your running your own business from your house and maintain your own internet domain you really dont need ultimate | |

| Alright, so throw in Home Premium (or Basic, another minor decision), a virus scanner, spysweeper, i'm looking at ~4800. That's actually better than I thought it'd be. | |

Actually, if you lookat some benchmarks, 2 4870's in Crossfire outperform one GTX280(in several benchmarks anyways)and it's still cheaper.

Some things are ok to go cheap on... If your making a gaming computer and going cheap on a video car its like buying a Performance vehicle and buying cheap tires/parts... You can have all the power in the world but your still not getting anywhere fast.. And if you got cheap parts its not like you will be going anywhere fast for very long..

| I have no idea of the reliability but, I would assume that since they are a big video card company they aren't going to cheaply make their products. Sure, they run hot right now but so do nVidia's new cards and they will most likely get better with new drivers that allow you to control the fan speed. And usually,(from what I heard) ATI releases drivers earlier than nVidia. | |

There is a reason why you see these HIGH graphical games say powered by Nvidia.. Proven reliability/performance/quality should be at the top of anyone's mind that is wanting a true gaming rig... People buy ATi's to "get by" and cut corners... Its the poor man's video card and "gets the job done" even if its shitty quality.. If you want a computer that will last a good 3-5 years you are smart to go with the GX280... There is a reason why it takes 2 of ATi's top cards to beat a single Nvidia..

| Yeah but 2 of ATI's cards are still cheaper than one of nVidias and it's better(most the time). And haven't you ever thought that all those ads by nVidia like "the way it's meant to be played" are for marketing? ATI was behind for awhile but that doesn't mean they can't make a comeback. And do you have any proof that ATI's cards aren't built well and that they cut corners? You keep saying these things yet you provide no proof, if you want benchmarks to show you that 4870's in crossfire are better than a GTX280 then I'll find them and show you. | |

I have bought multiple ATi's and returned them within the 30 day refund because they just suck.. I have used the all the 3000's and none where as reliable as my shitty 8600GT... I have never had a game crash since i got the nvidia.. If you want to show me benchs of cross fired ATi's then show me the bench of SLi'ed 280's.. if you can not then there really is no reason to show me anything... Its like showing me a quad core computer against a single core computer... not a very realistic comparison ... And the fact that the benchmark is only be a few hundred its still a pathetic "win" if thats what they wanna consider it.. They have to have 4 gpus to keep up with a single core nvidia?? Whats really wrong here?

| Sure, GTX280's SLI'd will beat anything out right now but you have to pay $1200 to get 2 of them, my point is that 2 ATI cards perform better than the top nVidia card right now and they're about $100 cheaper. I've used a few ATI cards in my old computer and never had a problem with them, maybe you just got bad luck with them but I don't think you should bash them because you don't like them. And I love nVidia too, my 8800GTS performs better than I had thought it would and I love it, I couldn't ask for a better card at the price I got it for. | |
